How to create a perfect date night in

Date nights don't aways mean going out for dinner and drinks. Sometimes a night in is the perfect way to reconnect without distraction. Here are a few ideas on how to create a romantic date night in...

1. Have an indoor picnic

Forget eating at the table, and especially forget eating in front of the TV. We all love a picnic and they can be just as fun set up in the living room (without the unpredictable weather or insects!) Plus you can take that bottle of wine out from the fridge at the last minute so it's perfectly chilled.

Put your favourite blanket on the floor and help yourself to a picnic-style feast. If sitting on the floor is a little uncomfortable then adding some soft linen to the table by way of a table cloth or napkins can create the same picnic table effect.

An indoor picnic also means not having to cook if you don't feel like it. A selection of beautiful cheese and biscuits, pates and cured meats work perfectly with a good bottle of wine and requires minimal washing up.

We have plenty of special Cornish produce for the perfect indoor picnic:

2. Don't forget cocktail hour

Creating a special cocktail is a wonderful way to get the evening started. Surprise your partner with their favourite style of tipple but created with a twist.

Lover of a gin and tonic? How about trying our Morvenna Spiced Rum and tonic for a beautifully sophisticated long drink with the same botanical notes that your gin enthusiast is used to.

Our spiced rum is botanically driven, rather than full of ‘spice’ so it’s perfect with a soft tonic! Here we use Fevertree’s Mediterranean tonic.  Make it as you would a normal gin and tonic, but garnish with a sprig of thyme and a slice of orange.

3. It's all about the lighting...

The environment you're spending your date night in will be hugely affected by the mood of lighting you choose. Turning off the top light and using lamps can create a softer, and more peaceful ambiance. Equally, candle light is a wonderful way to enjoy a soft glow! If you'd rather not use open flamed candles there are some excellent battery operated candles that give the same wonderful effect more safely.

Buying in fresh flowers, or evening cutting some herbs from the garden is also a wonderful way to bring some natural decoration to a room, and you can even use them as a centrepiece for your indoor picnic!
